Bergen Central Station — known locally as Bergen Stasjon — has a history dating back to the early 20th century. Officially opened in 1913, predating the completion of the Bergen Line itself, this historic train station was designed by architect Jens Zetlitz Monrad Kielland in the National Romantic style and is considered one of Norway's most striking station buildings. The station has been protected from major alterations since 2003 and stands as a protected cultural monument in the heart of the city. Today, Bergen train station is a lively transportation hub, linking travelers to the famous Bergen Line — which stretches through picturesque mountains and valleys across Europe's largest high-mountain plateau (Hardangervidda) all the way to Oslo. Operated by Vy, Norway's national railway service, the station serves trains to Oslo, Voss, Myrdal, and beyond, including connections to the scenic Flåm Railway. Bergen's railway network has significantly strengthened its links with the rest of Norway, and the station continues to serve as the primary arrival point for tourists exploring the Norwegian fjords.

Traveling from Oslo to Bergen by train is one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the world. Bergen railway station is an efficient and modern station centrally located in Bergen, situated at Strømgaten 4, 5015 Bergen — just a 10-minute walk from the Fish Market and the historic Bryggen wharf. Almost all trains from Bergen head to Oslo, though some serve only part of the distance as far as Voss or Myrdal (with connections onward to the Flåm Railway). With only four rail platforms, the station is compact and easy to navigate, clear signs guide arriving and departing travellers without confusion.

When arriving in Bergen, the majority of hotels are located within walking distance of the train station, making it easy to reach your accommodation after even a long journey from Oslo. The Bergen bus station is just a 5-minute walk from the train station, and Bergen Airport is approximately a 25-minute drive. Bus service to Bergen Airport and other central locations in the city is available directly outside, as well as the Bybanen, Bergen's light rail (Bergen light rail) tram network. The Bergen light rail stop is adjacent to the station building, offering easy access to Bergen centre and destinations along the coast. Taxis can be caught on the right-hand side of the main exit. The station's location in the city centre makes the whole city, including the Fish Market and surrounding parks, easily accessible on foot.

While waiting for your train at Bergen Central Station, you can enjoy one of the many cafes, restaurants, and kiosks inside the station building. Bergen Bicycle Hotel, located near the station, offers secure bicycle storage for travellers arriving or departing on two wheels, bicycles can also be stored at the station itself. A luggage storage facility is available if you wish to leave your suitcase and explore the city. Lockers are available in three sizes, including large lockers big enough to fit three suitcases and dedicated ski lockers, with rental prices ranging from NOK 29 to NOK 699 per 24 hours, payable by credit card. Please note that luggage left for more than 7 days is moved to a luggage room. The station also offers free wireless internet access, public toilets, and comfortable waiting rooms.
